Hi folks. Katie and I have been living together in a rent house for several months now. We stay very busy with her teaching and me working for a civil litigation firm. Despite our demanding jobs, we find that we are at peace with the world when we are carving out our own little slice of it. Whether it is building a farm table or refinishing an old book case, we love to put our stamp on well….everything.
I love to build things. For Christmas, Katie asked me to build her a dining room table. Never having done so, I knew that such an undertaking would create a 100% unique piece. Everything fell together and it turned out to be a respectable showing of craftsmanship. I attribute any of my skills to be something learned from my dad. He taught me many things. Although he was called home this past summer, his lessons are ever present as I journey through life. He was a pretty damn good carpenter too.
Katie has a knack for color and texture. Being artistic and capable of recreating any look, she has made our rent house a home. She lives her life by the inspirational motto, “As I stand before God at the end of my life I would hope that would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.” I have the luxury of relying on her to make my projects into works of art.
After much conversation, we both decided that we should chronicle our adventures in creativity and construction. Some may get a laugh, others an idea or inspiration. Regardless of whatever is to be had, we intend to make 2015, as is everything else, our own.
